Barbieri was founded in 1958 in Sossano by the Barbieri brothers, under the name Agricola Sossanese. In 1960 it began manufacturing its first single-wheel walking tractor. The company acquired a business called SEP in 2010 to streamline its production and commercial networks, and in 2012 it became the exclusive Italian distributor of ISEKI tractors and mowers. Barbieri describes its work as designing multipurpose machines for agriculture and green maintenance.
