Gutbrod

A German maker (Standard Fahrzeugfabrik, Ludwigsburg, then Plochingen). Built motor hoes and single-axle Einachser from 1949 (the Terra); MTD-owned since 1996. Heritage two-wheel machines on the used market.

Gutbrod: Ludwigsburg, Plochingen and the MTD years

The company behind the Gutbrod name started as Standard Fahrzeugfabrik GmbH, founded in Ludwigsburg in 1926. According to the Gutbrod owners' club gutbrod-schrauber.de, it moved to Stuttgart-Feuerbach in 1933 and to Plochingen am Neckar in 1937.

In 1996 the business was acquired by Modern Tool and Die Company (MTD), and Bübingen became MTD's European headquarters. Under the Gutbrod brand name the range covered walk-behind and ride-on mowers, scarifiers and motor hoes. For spare parts, the club names MTD Products Aktiengesellschaft (Gutbrod) in Saarbrücken as the route.

The Terra in our catalogue is a discontinued machine, so it is bought used. Before you pay, ask the seller which parts have already been replaced and whether the engine and gearbox are original, then check that the parts route the club names can still supply your model. On an older single-axle machine a complete set of working implements is often a large share of the value, so count what comes with it and check each piece for wear. If the seller cannot show the machine running and cultivating, treat it as a restoration project and price it that way.

Tier E Two-wheel tractor

Gutbrod Terra

Petrol · Front-tine · width varies

A post-war German heritage single-axle machine (Einachser). Gutbrod — Standard Fahrzeugfabrik of Ludwigsburg/Plochingen — added motor hoes to its range in 1949, and the Terra was sold as a Motorhacke and Balkenmäher carrier running a Gutbrod two-stroke (the T110 about 4 PS, the T150 about 7 PS). Working width depends on the implement fitted, so it is not a fixed-width rotavator. Gutbrod has been MTD-owned since 1996. Engine variants from heritage/parts sources; weight is class-typical and width implement-dependent, so specs are flagged.
