Tier C — Electric / cordless cultivator Japan Est. 1915

Makita

A cordless power-tool giant; its LXT 18V/36V cordless cultivators bring a huge battery ecosystem to soil work — handy if you already own the batteries.

Makita, from motor repairs in Nagoya to 36V garden tools

Makita Corporation was founded on 21 March 1915 in Nagoya City, for the sales and repair of lighting fixtures, motors and transformers, and was incorporated on 10 December 1938. It announced its first power tool, a hand-operated electric planer, in 1958.

In garden equipment, Makita UK maintains a 36V product category for lawn mowers and cultivators, and gives a standard 1 year warranty from the date of purchase on tools. The Makita cultivator on our pages, the UK360D LXT, is marked discontinued.

For a buyer, a discontinued model means you are mostly looking at used machines or old stock, so check exactly what the seller is offering before comparing prices. The bigger question is batteries: if you already own Makita batteries that fit the machine, a cordless cultivator is a much cheaper addition than its price suggests, but if you do not, the battery and charger have to be counted in. Ask whether a used machine comes with batteries and how old they are, and look at what Makita UK's 36V category offers today before settling on an older model.
