Rapid

A Swiss Einachser icon (Rapid Motormäher AG, now Rapid Technic). The single-axle Type “S” Spezial (1950–78) mechanised Alpine agriculture, and the company still builds modern two-wheel tractors today. A strong Swiss-market and collector following.

Rapid of Killwangen, from the Spezial to the KIPOS

Rapid Motormäher AG was founded in 1926 to build motor mowers. Its single-axle Type S Spezial was built from 1950 to 1978. Rapid's own history says the Spezial mechanised Swiss agriculture, with a wide choice of attachments and a driven trailer.

The company today is Rapid Technic AG, based at Killwangen in Switzerland, and it still sells single-axle machines. Its current KIPOS is a professional single-axle machine with stepless hydrostatic drive, tool-free implement change and a swivelling handlebar.

The Spezial in our catalogue is a discontinued model, so it is a used purchase, and with a Spezial the attachments and the trailer are part of what you are buying. Ask what comes with the machine, check the condition of each piece, and have the seller show the attachments being driven, not just the engine running. Price a machine with missing attachments accordingly. If you want a new Rapid instead, the KIPOS is the current single-axle model, aimed at professional users; ask a dealer to show the implement change and the swivelling handlebar on the kind of work you do.

Tier E Two-wheel tractor

Rapid Spezial

Petrol · Front-tine · width varies

A Swiss Einachser icon. Rapid's single-axle Type "S" Spezial (1950-78) was one of the first truly multi-functional walking tractors — mowing, tillage and, with a PTO-driven trailer, transport — and it mechanised a great deal of Alpine agriculture. Most ran a MAG four-stroke (around 9-14 PS depending on variant), with later Briggs & Stratton Vanguard options. It's a mower/carrier rather than a fixed-width rotavator (tineType is nominal). Rapid Technic still builds modern two-wheel tractors. Engine and years from Rapid's history and listings; power varies by variant and weight is class-typical, so specs are flagged.
