Where the TR 430 sits in the Husqvarna range
Husqvarna's tillers split into two families. The TF models are front-tine machines, from the TF 120 at 46 cm up to the TF 338 at 95 cm, and most of them cost less than this one. The TR models put the tines at the back. The TR 430 is the narrower, cheaper rear-tine option, with a 196cc engine rated at 4.3 hp, a 43 cm working width and an indicative £900–1200 through dealers. Above it, the TR 348 moves to 5.4 hp and 48 cm for roughly £1150–1460.
Set against a TF 335, which works 80 cm for around £780–950, the TR 430 looks poor value per centimetre of width, and that is a fair criticism. What the extra money buys is the layout. The TR 430 is the machine for ground that a front-tine TF would bounce across; if your soil is already in good heart, the cheaper and wider TF models will cover it faster.
Why rear tines and counter-rotation matter on hard ground
Counter-rotating tines turn against the direction of travel, so instead of clawing the machine forward they dig upwards into the soil ahead of them. On compacted ground or clay that means the tines keep cutting rather than lifting the tiller out of the work. Husqvarna's manual gives the rotors as 30 cm in diameter turning at 190 rpm, with a maximum working depth of 15 cm and a maximum width of 43 cm.
The 92 kg weight is part of the design rather than a flaw. It keeps the tines pressed into hard ground without the operator leaning on the handlebars, and it is why the TR 430 is calmer to use on heavy soil than a light front-tine machine. The drive is kept simple, with a single forward speed and the clutch controls on the handlebar, so there is little to learn before you start.
Who should look elsewhere
If you need to dig deeper than 15 cm in one pass, this is not the machine, and repeated passes on clay take patience. If you have to lift the tiller into a car boot or carry it up steps to a garden, 92 kg rules it out; you need a ramp and a van or trailer. And if your plot is large and open, the 43 cm width means a lot of walking compared with a 60–80 cm front-tine model. Our guide to front-tine vs rear-tine tillers sets out where each layout earns its price.
Buying and looking after one in the UK
The TR 430 is a dealer machine in the UK, and buying from a Husqvarna dealer is the sensible route: a 92 kg tiller is far easier to have delivered and set up than to collect, and the dealer is where the gearbox and clutch service will happen later. Prices in our range come from dealer quotes, so ask whether delivery and a first service are included before comparing.
Routine care is light but specific. The manual asks for the right-hand gearbox connection to be greased once a season with an ounce of wheel bearing grease, which is easy to skip and worth doing. On a used machine, check that the tines are not worn short, that the clutch engages and releases cleanly from the handlebar, and that the gearbox shows no sign of having run dry.

Rear-tine machine. Width and weight determine how much ground you cover and how manoeuvrable it is — heavier machines bite harder but ask more of you to turn and transport.
TR 430 — your questions
How much does the Husqvarna TR 430 cost?
The indicative price is £900–£1,200, based on dealer quotes. Always confirm against a live quote — these figures are estimates pending verification.
What size plot is the TR 430 suited to?
Tough soil where quality matters. With a 43 cm working width it suits established beds and standard allotment plots.
Is the TR 430 petrol, diesel or electric?
It is petrol (Husqvarna 196cc 4-stroke). That means strong sustained power for breaking and turning ground, with routine fuel and oil maintenance.
How deep does the Husqvarna TR 430 dig?
Husqvarna gives a maximum working depth of 15 cm, with a working width of up to 43 cm. That is enough to prepare seedbeds and break up a compacted top layer, but it is not a deep-digging machine. On heavy clay expect to reach full depth over two or three passes rather than in one.
Husqvarna TR 430 or TR 348?
Both are rear-tine machines for hard ground. The TR 348 adds power (5.4 hp against 4.3 hp) and a slightly wider 48 cm strip, at roughly £1150–1460 against £900–1200. On a small or medium plot the TR 430 does the same job a little more slowly; the TR 348 is worth the extra mainly on larger areas of heavy soil.
